Could COVID-19 Be a Bioweapon?
In his 1798 theory, English scholar Thomas Robert Malthus suggests that human population growth may be exponential, whereas the growth of food supply and other essential resources human beings’ life depend upon is linear. Malthus believes if we fail to keep population growth on the same line as the growth of food supply, a gradual extinction and demise of the human race would be inevitable. Thus, Malthus proposes two “checks” to help solve this issue: one would be through moral restraints (abstinence) – ceasing to reproduce or trying to reduce it. Secondly, premature death due to disease, war, or starvation, he claims, would return the population to a lower level and make it more sustainable. The second option is also known as “Malthusian Catastrophe”.
Global warming is one of the major threats to the future of Earth and its environment, as it has drastically increased in the last few years. Scientists, all around the globe, are in agreement that human beings’ reckless behaviors, such as wasting food, overusing energy, polluting the environment, and over-reproduction, are the sources of destruction of this planet. Over the past few years, scientists have been instructing and advising people to help eliminate this threat via reducing energy use, recycling, planting trees, etc.
Unfortunately, the vast majority of the world don’t seem to take these warnings seriously, and maintain these risky behaviors without any consideration to the potential environmental threats. Following the Australian bushfires of late 2019 and early 2020 and the continued disregard for the professional recommendations, researchers started to lose hope and predicted that the imminent danger of global warming is now drawing even closer, and now, we have much less time than we originally thought we did to stop it.
As the novel coronavirus pandemic hit, it had forced people to take all the necessary precautions to avoid any infections. Various sources have reported that ever since the pandemic has hit, bodies of water are now clearer than they have ever been, the skies are bluer, and most importantly, we’ve experienced the largest fall in Carbon Dioxide output in recorded history!
Before going further, I have to say that I am NOT one of those people who believe COVID-19 is a lie, or that, it is was created by certain countries to destroy each other’s economies. However, It is a possibility that it can be a man-made bioweapon engineered with the agreement of a number of the World’s most influential leaders as a necessary last measure to stop the effects of global warming. Biological weapons is the use of disease-producing agents –such as bacteria, viruses, insects, etc.- as weapons with the intent of killing and harming humans. Using biological toxins to kill humans has been around since the earliest civilizations, however the first country to actively develop biological weapons was Germany during World War I, as they developed anthrax, glanders, cholera, and a wheat fungus to use during the war. It is presumed that they may have used these weapons in countries such as Russia and Mesopotamia, and The French Cavalry. There have been other uses of biological weapons throughout the years, and the fear of an all-out biological warfare is still a major possibility.
If COVID-19 was in fact a bioweapon, the main purpose behind it could be reducing the effects of global warming. Not only are you decreasing the effects by killing a large portion of the population, you’re also decreasing it by keeping people indoors and hence decreasing the pollution.
As people are indoor, unless it’s for urgent matters, they make sure to use their food supply efficiently instead of wasting it. In case of leaving their house, now, they adhere to precautionary measures, including keeping hygiene and wearing protective masks and gloves, in a bid to curb risk of infection. More importantly, long distance air and land travels, which contribute to a huge portion of the world’s carbon emissions, are almost non-existent!
Not much is known about the virus, but the numbers suggest that, for whatever reason, it doesn’t kill everyone and it is very rare to see a young person dying from the virus, it mostly kills people who are already terminally ill and prone to death. Plus, the threat of global warming would’ve destroyed our planet, and people would not listen to guidelines about how to decrease its likelihood no matter what, so to force them into staying in, being clean, and not pollute the system any further in the fear of a deadly virus is a smart move.
These points imply that the virus could, in fact, be a crafted bioweapon, and could be an implementation of the Malthusian theory. Via reducing pollution, we’re already decreasing the likelihood of global warming. Combine that with a Malthusian Catastrophe, and you may have a solid plan to erase the threat or at least delay its effect.
The COVID-19 has already succumbed well over half a million people to death, and it doesn’t seem to show any signs of stopping anytime soon. A number of different analyses, including one from Carbon Brief, show that “carbon emissions this year will fall by 4-8%, somewhere between 2 and 3 billion tons of the warming gas”, the biggest carbon crash ever recorded!
