Introducing Kurdistan to the World Through Spanish Music

Art

Two weeks ago, a new Kurdish artist who simply goes by the name of Yad, released his first single called “NYA”. The song has reached 79 thousand views in such a short amount of time, a very impressive number for a new artist. What makes Yad so different from any other artist we’ve encountered, is the fact that he sings part of his song in Spanish. His new original style of music quickly caught the eyes and interest of the AUIS Voice team, and therefore we decided to hold a live interview with Yad on Instagram, and provide his fans with an opportunity to ask him all the questions they have.

Yad is a 22 year old Kurdish guy who currently lives in Finland. He studies architecture and speaks 6 different languages. Yad is originally from the city of Helebce and he moved to Sulaimania with his family when he was a kid. Later, because of the political instability in Iraq, they immigrated to Europe and settled in Italy. That is when Yad started learning Italian. Later they moved to Finland, and he has been spending his life there ever since. When we asked Yad about the cultural shock he experienced moving to so many different countries, he told us that it felt terrible and was very hard for him. He said that just when he was starting to get used to an environment, he would jump into a whole different one and it took him very long to find himself.

We later asked Yad about his musical career. He told us that he started working on music professionally two years ago, and he had been working on his latest release “NYA” for a year and a half. The process that ended up in the “NYA” we listen to today was very hectic and long for him, especially because he had to rewrite the song a few times and start over. He believes that “NYA” was a product of his hardwork and the help of his producer and team in Spain. We asked him why he chose to sing it in Spanish, and in response he told us that lately around the world, more and more people are listening to Latino music and this would be a great way to introduce Kurdistan to the world. He believes that it is about time that everyone around the world knows about Kurds, and the way to do that is through music and art. We later asked him what current Kurdish artist is he impressed with, and he said that he is impressed with Bana. He further told us that if Bana accepts, he would love to do a duet with her in the future, and he wants it to be as good as a Shakira and Maluma collaboration.

Towards the end of our interview, and before we started asking Yad the questions asked from his fans, we asked him about all the hate he is getting on social media. In response to that, he said that he finds it very okay to get hate from people, after all that is how many great things started. He also said that all the hate he gets is a form of free advertisement for him and jokingly said maybe he should thank his haters. Yad believes that what he is doing is a start of a movement, through which he hopes to introduce Kurdistan to the world, and maybe someday the people who are hating on him now will know and appreciate what he is doing.

After asking a few questions asked by his fans, which he was very happy to answer, we asked Yad about his plans for the future. He was pleased to tell us that after this rough global crisis is over, he will come back with more and better music for his fans, and as the team of AUIS Voice, we wish Yad great luck and cannot wait to hear more of his music.
