The AUIS Literary Journal Invites You to Submit Your Creative Work
After almost three years since its inauguration, the AUIS Literary Journal plans on publishing its second issue this May, and submissions from the AUIS community (students, faculty and staff) are especially encouraged.
The Journal’s origins date back to early 2019 when a group of students and faculty at the American University of Iraq, Sulaimani gathered to promote Iraqi literary voices to a wider global audience and place them on par with international writers.
Due to interruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, the journal couldn’t continue publishing at its natural pace. Since last semester (fall 2022), a team of AUIS students and faculty have been working on reviving the publication, formulating the journal’s goals, agreeing on plans to promote and fund it, and assigning responsibilities to each team member.
The journal team consists of a small group of students, undergraduates and graduates, whose academic focuses vary from literature to engineering. English faculty members Jamalieh Haley and Stephen Danilovich both serve as editors and advisors for the journal.
The AUIS Literary Journal accepts original unpublished poetry, fiction, creative nonfiction, and artwork in English. The journal’s team still upholds its original mission “to locate Iraqi writers and their themes among a wider aesthetic of international writers.” If you want a chance to be featured on the journal’s second issue, don’t hesitate to submit your creative work!
