Amna Suraka's Humanitarian Campaign to Aid Victims of Turkiye and Syria

Local people donated money, clothes, and other supplies at Amna Suraka, where local organizations held a campaign to send help to Turkiye and Syria earthquake victims.

On February 6, a major earthquake hit Southern Turkiye and Northern Syria, and caused more than 37 thousand deaths so far. Many places in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq have delivered help to them, and one of these places was Amna Suraka in Sulaymaniyah.

Mr. Karzan Omer Jamel, the vice president of Rishna Media Organization, said they, as the organization, are at the Amna Suraka to collect donations from people and send them "to [their] brothers in Turkey and Syria." According to him, people are very willing to help and bring everything they can, such as food, money, toys, and blankets. "It is a good thing that we can be of a bit of help to the earthquake victims," he continued. He also mentioned that they have already sent two trucks of food, clothes, and other basic life needs to Turkiye and Syria, and in the upcoming days, they are planning to send more.

Arina and Teba, two local women from Sulaymaniyah, donated food, blankets, and toys to help those who lost their things due to the earthquake. They expressed their feelings by saying that this is their duty, and they have to do it. They also said that it is crucial to support the victims this way. "Everyone should help as much as they can. It does not matter, even if it is a small help," Teba continued.

Muhammed Sadiq traveled an hour from Sitak to donate IQD 300,000. "We feel so sad for what happened to the people in Turkey and Syria," he said, "this is a human duty which we should all respond to."

Amna Suraka is a museum, located near Parki Azadi in Sulaymaniyah city in Iraq. This place used to be a prison where Kurdish people were tortured due to political reasons at the time of the Baath regime.
