How to Help Victims of the Türkiye and Syria Earthquake

An earthquake hit Syria and Türkiye, and left a death toll of more than 5,000 people. Rescue teams are still searching for survivors. Here is how to help the victims.

Syria is especially suffering as the quake destruction came on top of the aftermath of many years of war. To add to this, there are international sanctions on the country that makes the Syrian victims more difficult. Also, the roads, both in Türkiye and Syria, makes it more difficult for rescue teams to search for people.

A campaign is held at the Amna Suraka (The Red Museum) in Sulaimani to collect donations for the victims. They accept food, beddings, clothes, money, and medical kits. You can visit the Amna Suraka, near Azdi Park, to help.

Also, there are multiple organisations that are helping to collect donations. However, it is important to do your research before making a donation, especially if you are donating to an organisation that is not very well known, so that you make sure your donations goes to the right place.

UNICEF is one of the organisations that currently collects donations. According to the organisation, from every one dollar donated, 82 cents goes towards emergency response work, and 18 cents goes towards raising awareness. Click here to donate through UNICEF.

Medicine Sans Frontiers (MSF) has provided emergency medical kits and medical staff to 23 facilities across Idlib and Aleppo, according to their website. And they are currently accepting donations to widen their support for the victims. Click here to help through MSF.

Syria Civil Defence is a humanitarian organization dedicated to helping communities in Syria to be rebuilt. Click here to make your donation through them.
